I was just sent an interesting review (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2017/02/09/sick-but-not-sick/) on a book called “All in Your Head: True Stories of Imaginary Illness.” In the book, the author focuses on the mind's ability to produce physical symptoms. Does anyone have thoughts about this book?
I find the part about her epilepsy patients to be particularly striking – 70% of patients referred to her with poorly controlled seizures didn't have epilepsy at all – it was only psychological!
Symptoms produced by the mind, and not by an actual physical illness, often end up making the affected individual more anxious. Does anybody have experience with these sorts of psychosomatic symptoms?
